It seems we are all busier these days, with instant communication, smart phones, social media, work, Netflix, family and friends, and everything else we try to squeeze into our days.  We all want success, achievement, and personal growth.

I often get to the end of the week and wonder where it went – time seems to be going faster and faster. It frustrates me no end.

How do we even have time to think about goals?

Well, goal setting is important if you want to move yourself forward and achieve things. We can all be better versions of ourselves.

Even if your goals are simple, like saving for a holiday, or you have big ambitious goals, having clearly defined goals keep you heading in the right direction.

Here are 7 sure fire ways to achieving your goals and getting what you want:

  1. Write them down and make them SMART goals

There is so much power in writing your goals down. It’s like once it written down, the universe knows and does its best to help create and achieve your goals. If you don’t write them down, then its just a dream. Make them concrete.

SMART goals are super important. Write them in a positive frame too.

Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time bound.

Lets compare 2 goals and you work out which is a SMART goal:

  • I want to lose weight
  • I will weight 80kgs by the 31 December 2017 (my starting weight is 89kgs and today is 19 May 2017)

Obviously, the second goal is the SMART because it clearly identifies an achievable realistic goal with a time frame.

  1. Create sub goals

Chunking down your goal into smaller goals helps to make them more achievable and less overwhelming. Using the example above, then our sub goals could be: “by 30 June 2018, I will weigh 87.5kgs). If your goal is financial, then you might set saving targets for each month.

  1. Make an action plan

What do you need to do to achieve your goals? An action plan is a step by step recipe for goal achievement. Write this plan down as well. How are you going to achieve your goal? This might include, what you are going to eat or how many calories you are going to consume, how often you go to the gym, how much money you are going to put away each week, what research you need to do, taking your lunch to work 4 days a week, etc. Again, be specific about what you need to do and write it down

  1. Vision boards

The power of a visions board is truly incredible. A vision board is simply a collection of images and/or words that you put onto a large piece of cardboard that have meaning to you around your goals/visions/dreams. Using colour magnifies the power of your vision board. Place your vision board in a place where you see it most often such as your fridge, office, lounge room. I have several copies and put them all around my house. One place that I love seeing my vision board is in my bedroom – I look at it before I go to sleep and first thing when I wake up.

  1. Reward yourself

As part of your action plan, schedule rewards for yourself as you achieve your sub goals. These rewards can be little things that you use to recognise your achievements and successes. It can anything from treating yourself to a massage, bubble bath, dinner out, chocolate (only 1 square if you have a weight loss goal).

  1. Achievement journal

An achievement or success journal is a great way to keep yourself motivated and also to recognise how far you have come in your journey. Grab a notebook and write in big letters on the front “(Your Name)’s Achievement Journal”, and write down everything you achieve in your day. Do this every evening before bed. Highlight the major achievements.

You will be so surprised how motivating this is on a daily basis. If you’re feeling down, grab your journal and look back on all the amazing things you have achieved.

  1. Get help

We can all achieve more with a little help from friends, colleagues or professionals, not matter what our goals are. Simply talking about our goals helps the universe to help you achieve. Professional help can include a Success Coach. These professionals can help you create clarity around what you really want, release any blocks or sabotages, and to be accountable for your results.

So, that was the 7 sure-fire ways to achieving your goals and getting what you want for busy people.
